non-literal door signage
example 1. “This door is to remain locked at all times.”
example 2. “Employees Only” (- but the restroom for the public is beyond that door)
example 3. “Library Patrons Only” (- but you have to go through this door to sign up to be a library patron)
Non-literal door signage is a special case of what we might call 99% rules – rules which have some more or less obvious exceptions. Sometimes the exceptions are acknowledge via a bit of humor, for example, “No running – unless you’re running to the bathroom.” Another example is the statement that adverbs in Esperanto end in ‘e’ – but in fact there are a few – such as ‘antaŭ’ and ‘baldaŭ’ – that don’t.
