Tangential Approach to Mathematics

Mathematics can be done only tangentially. This is why it is a poor man’s game, because if you are poor, then your entire being is peripheral (i.e., tangential to society). Therefore a poor man can deal with mathematics centrally, and still retain the status of doing mathematics tangentially. (Euclid did not understand this, as evidenced by his well-known exchange with King Ptolemy.)
