OBSERVATION (the point of mathematics)

The reason that it is difficult for the young to see the point of mathematics is that it has none. That is, mathematics is the quintessential subject to study in preparation for whatever direction your later efforts will take, that is, in which direction your later efforts will point. Something that points everywhere points nowhere, and this is the great strength, and weakness, of mathematics, and is why mathematics should be studied by default, that is, contingent upon other things having been taken care of.
